TADITIONAL BIRTH ATTENDANT (TBA) WITH UP-TO DATE RECORDS FROM 1981 OF OVER 650 CHILDREN DELIVERED

Record keeping in recent times have been eluded by the coming of internet as most people do not keep records like our parents did some decades back.  Nonetheless, there are still people who keep records even though they are not within our age limit but age grade of our parents.

Last week, at one of the surveillance training event (AVADAR) conducted by WHO (World Health Organisation) and eHA (eHealth Systems Africa) , I came across a Traditional Birth Attendant Zainab Ahmodu by name,   who had delivered over 650 children since 1981 and have her records intact in 6 booklets as shown below.  This woman is a widow from Dala Alamderi in Maisandari Ward of MMC LGA Maiduguri.

How many Health clinics have their records of over 2 decades? not to talk of about 4 decades ago.  I am sure most people born like 4 decades ago if visited their place of birth may not be able to trace their records or lay hands on their birth records.

This is laudable and such people deserve to be recognized and given national honours due to their contributions to the society.

  1. As you rightly said, recording keeping is one of the problems we are facing in our society, it will be laudable if all civil society and the Gov. put in place some measures to encourage any body who is fund with such good habit of record keeping especial the poor widow who just not keep record but try in her little well to safe life in traditional way.
