To me, the well being of the employee is the well being of the organization where they work and in turn the society and or environment they are in.
Though the world blood donor day for 2020 has gone past almost 6 months down the line with campaign theme for this year :”Safe blood saves lives” and the slogan “Give blood and make the world a healthier place” however, it is better to prepare our minds towards 2021 blood donor day or even before the time. Blood donation is a routine activity that can be done any day any time. Many organization do not think of the well being of their employee not to think of other members of the society. Very few organizations truly have passion in impacting the society or their environment. We celebrate world blood donor day yearly, yet many of us including myself, unless reminded or prompted by some form of activities, we do not deem it fit to walk into a blood bank to donate to save lives.
Little did we know that in donating blood, we revitalize our own blood, in saving others lives we save ours too. Donating out blood once a year sure keeps you healthier, it enable you be alert of when you are short of blood or not healthy for you to quickly address whatever is wrong and be back stronger as well as many other advantages. Most of us are afraid to walk into a blood bank, we are afraid of being diagnosed of one thing or another. Please let us all cultivate the habit of donating out blood to others, the health benefit to one is far higher.
I recall an organization which went into partnership with the Kano branch of Nigerian Red Cross Society and a teaching hospital in the state in 2018/2019 to conduct blood donation by employees to be kept in the hospital blood bank with the goal/aim to have an effective and efficient lives saving mechanism in assisting the victims of emergency cases, Children in emergencies, accident victims and women in labour who may require blood. When this activity kicked off little did the organizers thought thought they would be impacted soonest. However, 2-3 of the employees; 1 who was part of the organizers and other donors benefited from this life saving opportunity.
I wish many organizations would borrow from the organization aforementioned, save the lives of their employees and the society at large by embarking on this life saving activity and or opportunity, you never know who would be impacted by your service to humanity. Remember you even get a certificate and a badge for being a donor.
